The 3 D’s of dog training play a big role in the reliability of a command. Here we used the command “Stay” to explain how the 3 D’s operate. The distance that the command is given at, the duration of the command given, and the surrounding distractions all have a role in your dog’s ability to appropriately respond to what they are being asked.
Each dog chosen for Austin Animal Center’s Transport Program received a thorough medical and behavior evaluation. These evaluations were designed to determine if a dog was fit for transport, and the behavior requirements of our receiving rescues. This Husky’s behavior eval indicated that she would be a perfect candidate for our rescue partners both in state and out of state.
On 7/26/2022 myself, my coworker, Austin Animal Center medical and kennel staff, prepped and loaded 53 small dogs from a hoarding case at Austin Animal Center to our rescue partners up north. All of the dogs ranged in age and sociability, but we were able to find proper rescue placement for each dog with the help of AAC kennel and medical staff. The solution to Austin’s current space crisis is to spay and neuter. With proper community access to comprehensive spay and neuter programs, we can lessen the flood of animals come through AAC’s doors.
While working as a Intake and Foster Coordinator at Operation Kindness, I had the pleasure of pulling these dogs from the Wilbarger Humane Society in Vernon Texas. These are just a few of the animals we were able to take on. Thank you so much to all of the staff and volunteers at WHS who continue to care for animals in need in Vernon Texas. WHS is hands down one of my favorite shelters to work with. Love ya’ll!
